Controlled-rate cryopreservation device vs. programmable freezer
There are two commonly used devices for freezing cells as part of cryopreservation: controlled-rate freezing containers and programmable freezers. Programmable freezers are more versatile in terms of freezing rates but are far larger and way more expensive. Controlled rate freezing devices are simple, small, and inexpensive.
Which type of device do you use for cryopreservation in your lab? Have you tried both methods or just one? Alternatively, do you use vitrification and therefore eschew a slow freezing step altogether?
